Clarity over product emissions and climate risk for Axkid
Short summary
Axkid is committed to improving child safety on the roads globally through innovative car seats. Axkid offers a range of child car seats for different age groups and has sustainability as one of its core values. As a partner, Greenstep has been supporting Axkid in its sustainability work, including Life Cycle Assessments, carbon footprint calculations, and climate risk assessment.
Transparency on product sustainability
Greenstep has supported Axkid in conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) for several products. An LCA is an assessment of the environmental impact associated with each life-cycle stage of the product. This includes raw materials, assembly, distribution and end-of-life. By publishing these results as an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), Axkid informs consumers with trustworthy and audited data. Axkid actively uses the data from the LCAs to set reduction targets and lower the products’ emissions, for example by increasing the share of recycled materials.
Carbon footprint of the organization
Greenstep has also supported Axkid in calculating the carbon footprint of their organization covering the full scope 1, 2 and 3 according to GHG protocol. By utilizing the results of the LCA studies, it is possible to achieve high data quality in scope 3 category 1 (Purchased goods & services) and thus it enables reflecting any improvements to the product directly on the organizational carbon footprint.
Climate risk assessment to proactively manage risks
Greenstep and Axkid have collaborated on a climate risk assessment. As part of a global supply chain, Axkid wanted to have a full overview on how climate change can affect their business.
“The assessment helped us identify the upcoming risks related to climate change. This covered both physical risks like heat waves but also risks like rising prices for materials. It gave us a comprehensive overview and concrete input for our internal risk management”, says Johan Andersson, Chief Sustainability Officer at Axkid.
Building resilience and enabling long-term growth
During the project, Greenstep and Axkid examined the company’s resilience, i.e. how climate-resilient Axkid’s strategy and business model are. In addition, the business opportunities created by climate change mitigation and adaptation solutions were assessed.
Axkid also received an overview of how its operations are adapted to risks like changing temperature and heat waves.
“Having Greenstep as an external partner that has guided us through the climate risk assessment has been beneficial. We have worked together side by side and learned during the process”, Johan adds.
Award-winning sustainability work
Axkid has been awarded an “excellence” rating in the ESG Transparency Award for their sustainability report. “One of the key practices that contributed to our high rating was having life cycle assessments for our products,” says Johan.
“I can recommend Greenstep for their professionalism and good collaboration. We are continuing our partnership on the sustainability work.”
