Biodiversity Services

Nature loss poses an increasing risk to businesses, and the regulatory framework surrounding it is tightening rapidly. We support companies in identifying their impact on and dependence on nature, using this information to develop targets, actions and reporting in line with the CSRD/ESRS, TNFD and other frameworks.

Why biodiversity matters to your business

Biodiversity is an increasingly regulated area of environmental sustainability, addressed in frameworks such as CSRD/ESRS and TNFD. It concerns how a company’s operations and value chain affect ecosystems and species, and how the company in turn depends on the services those ecosystems provide — such as pollination, water regulation, and raw material availability.

Where these dependencies are significant, biodiversity loss can translate into direct business risk: supply disruption, rising input costs, and stricter permitting or financing conditions.

We support companies in assessing these impacts and dependencies, calculating their biodiversity footprint, and building the plans and reporting needed to meet regulatory and stakeholder expectations.

Impact and Dependency Assessment

We identify where a company’s operations and value chain interface with nature, using the LEAP approach (Locate, Evaluate, Assess, Prepare) as the underlying method. The assessment establishes which biodiversity-related impacts and dependencies are material to the business, forming the basis for target-setting and disclosure.

Because LEAP is used as the backbone of the assessment, the output aligns with the main reporting frameworks companies need to respond to — including CSRD/ESRS, GRI, and the ISSB’s forthcoming nature-related disclosures Practice Statement (expected as an exposure draft in October 2026).

Biodiversity Footprint Calculation

We calculate a company’s biodiversity footprint using recognised methodologies. A common metric is the potentially disappeared fraction of species (PDF), which aggregates different biodiversity impacts into a single unit of measurement, in the same way a carbon footprint aggregates climate impacts. The calculation gives the company a quantified baseline that can be tracked year on year, helps identify where impact is concentrated across the value chain, and directs actions to where they matter most. The result feeds directly into reporting and allows comparison with other companies.

Biodiversity Transition Plans

Based on the impact and dependency assessment, we help companies define a transition plan: specific targets, actions, and timelines for reducing negative impacts on biodiversity and strengthening positive contributions. The plan is developed in relation to the company’s own operations and value chain, rather than as a generic template.

Biodiversity-Related Reporting

We support the preparation of biodiversity disclosures under applicable frameworks, including CSRD/ESRS (ESRS E4) and TNFD. This covers structuring the underlying data, aligning it with disclosure requirements, and ensuring the reported information is consistent and traceable to source.
