CableCrew is growing and evolving – Leadership Training to support change

When CableCrew rolled out their new ERP system, they knew it wasn’t just about new technology - it was about people. To make the transition smooth, they teamed up with Greenstep for tailor-made leadership training. The goal? To give CableCrew’s managers the tools and confidence to lead one of the company’s biggest change projects yet.
With the new ERP, project finances and real-time updates became accessible not just to management, but also to project leads and even clients. This kind of transparency called for new ways of working. It challenged everyone at CableCrew to rethink old habits, reshape responsibilities, and adjust their leadership practices.
A new system meant new ways of working
CableCrew, a Finnish-owned company specializing in fiber, electricity, and cable network projects from planning to installation, had been growing fast. To keep up, they invested in a new ERP system, called Cube.
Cube opened up real-time financial and project monitoring, both internally and for customers. Suddenly, clients could follow along with their own project’s progress, directly from the system.
Of course, this shift wasn’t just technical. It called for CableCrew’s managers to step up their communication, collaborate more tightly with different teams, and adopt a whole new mindset. Changing deeply rooted ways of working doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, training, and honest conversations across the organization.
Leadership training built for real change
CEO Juha Saapunki and HSEQ Director Satu-Maria Ravelin knew that generic leadership training wouldn’t cut it—they needed something designed for CableCrew’s unique situation.
That’s where Greenstep Academy stepped in, promising a tailor-made leadership program that would really speak to CableCrew’s needs. Convinced, Juha and Satu-Maria kicked off the collaboration.
Greenstep’s Päivi Lohi-Aalto (expert in learning and development) and Johanna Mannermaa (financial expert and coach for accountants) worked closely with Satu-Maria to shape the program. Together, they made sure the content reflected CableCrew’s actual practices and processes, not some one-size-fits-all theory.
Greenstep handled the program design, delivered the trainings, and produced all the learning materials. Meanwhile, Satu-Maria was able to develop practical guidelines during the training, helping managers implement the change in real-time.
According to Satu-Maria, the partnership worked seamlessly:
– The experts really listened. They understood exactly how these topics should be introduced to our people. The whole program was built around our reality.
A training program that created real impact
The leadership training consisted of four three-hour sessions, covering financial planning and monitoring, managerial responsibilities, communication and interaction, and handling difficult situations as a manager.
Participants included project managers and site managers responsible for customer projects and daily operations, as well as CableCrew’s financial and administrative experts.

For project manager Mika Syrjälä, the most valuable part wasn’t just the content, but the conversations:
"The discussions with colleagues and trainers opened up new perspectives on my own role. And it was great to realize that all of us managers were starting this change together, side by side."
Finance expert Maija Widing also found the program valuable:
– The training was clearly designed specifically for us, and it showed. It was interactive and very hands-on. Since I work closely with managers every day, it’s important that our roles and responsibilities are clear. Even though we haven’t had major issues, this training helped us take a real step forward. I believe everyone now understands the importance of real-time financial monitoring much better than before."
Päivi Lohi-Aalto from Greenstep sums up the experience:
"Working with Satu-Maria was fantastic. She’s deeply committed to developing the company and it showed throughout the training. Together, we built a program that gave the team space to shape a shared leadership culture—even for those tricky situations every manager faces."
